Congratulations, you got wrecked on New Year’s Eve. Now you’re part of a worldwide hangover epidemic. When you have a New Year’s Day Hangover, there is only one prescription: New Year’s Day Brunch.
7. Mexican for Breakfast at El Camino
El Camino understands that drinking is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. That being said, they’ll be serving brunch from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on New Year’s Day to keep the party rolling. Kick off 2015 surf rock style with Mexican-street-food-inspired brunch. If there’s anything better than Mexican food, it’s Mexican food for breakfast. In addition to favorites like Huevos Rancheros, they have sweet stuff like Plantain Pancakes.
This oasis in the Highlands is known for its Tiki rum cocktails, but it is a little known fact that El Camino serves up a mean Bloody Mary. Just the right amount of spice. fresh tomato juice, and the perfect skewer of garnishes means that you’re not going to want to stop at one. Treat yourself.
6. Shots of Espresso, Biermosas and More at Gralehaus
Gralehaus is slinging brunch all day for all of your hangover woes. From 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, come on down for some biermosas (or just the regular kind). Come out for some fantastic breakfast fixin’s including, but not limited to, Black Eyed Peas and Pork Belly & Collards, French Toast, of Biscuits and Gravy.
In addition to more booze to keep your buzz rolling, Gralehaus will be serving up $1 shots of espresso all day and healing, lifegiving concentrated shots of healthy stuff to make up for all of the abuse you put your body through on New Year’s Eve. The Facemelter shot is made with oil of oregano, ginger, lemon and cayenne, and the Tumeric Tonic is a less intense but equally as healing shot.
5. Spicy and Savory Brunch and Killer Bloody Marys The Silver Dollar
Brunch all day! Come out to sink your teeth into The Silver Dollar’s exceptional Cornbread Pancakes from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The Silver Dollar is a world-renowned bourbon lover’s destination, serving 100+ types of bourbon, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make one of the best Bloody Marys in town. It’s delightfully spicy and refreshing.
Brunch your way into 2015 to the soundtrack of Okies on vinyl the likes of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. You’ll probably want more food than just booze though – The Silver Dollar has you covered, with plenty of hearty brunch options. Try their Chili Cheese Hash Brown with Texas-style chili, Shrimp and Grits, or just a good, ol’-fashioned waffle.
4. “Champagne” And Oyster Brunch At Garage Bar
Nothing cures your hangover like the Champagne of Beers, Miller High Life. Get you some for only $2 each, or get a $6 Bloody Mary if you have any money left after New Year’s Eve. Garage Bar won’t judge you for wearing the dress and heels you went out in last night. From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, come and get it while the gettin’s good.
Breakfast cocktails! Garage Bar offers shandies, mimosas and Bloody Marys. It should be mentioned that the shandy is a “working man’s” shandy, which is a concoction of PBR and OJ. Don’t act like that’s not what you’d be drinking at home anyway.
3. Zanzabar’s Arcade Brunch
2015 is already off to a good start, as it will be the year of the 1st Annual Arcade Brunch at Zbar. From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for a flat rate of $12, enjoy the Bloody Mary Bar, Pinball Tournament, Saturday Morning Cartoons (on a Thursday! total anarchy), a Cereal Bar, and brunch options including Eggs Benedict, Biscuits and Gravy, Hash Browns and more.
A pinball tournament is something worth rolling out of bed on New Year’s Day for, especially when there are cartoons and Bloody Marys involved. Wear your jammies if you’d like! If there’s ever a day you can get away with that, it’s New Year’s Day.
2. Brunch, with a Side of Modern Art, at Proof on Main
Proof on Main, the restaurant of 21c Boutique Hotel, does more than it’s share of keeping Louisville weird. On New Year’s Day, they’ll keep you fed and assist you in the struggle against your hangover in a classy fashion (but they get it, they’ll seat you “as long as you’re coherent.”) Shuffle on down to munch on brunch options like their French Toast Casserole or the Proof Benedict.
Proof will be offering drink specials and brunch from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Get some culture with your hangover, and check out the (free!) museum while you’re there. If you party too hardy, you could maybe even check into a room and keep the party rolling on to the 2nd.
1. Brunch by the Fireside at The Village Anchor
This village-centered European-style root meets Parisian bistro offers a classy yet cozy ambiance. What’s really cool is that The Village Anchor offers a wide array of breakfast beverages, including three different types of Bloody Marys, each as phenomenal as the last. With brunch being served from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM on New Year’s Day, you’ll have plenty of time to sample all three of them.
The brunch menu offers a diverse selection of sweet and savory options. From Buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy to the Huevos Rancheros Burrito to their famous Red Velvet Pancakes, there are options as hearty or as healthy as you’d like. The Chef has planned a special Corned Beef and Cabbage dish for New Year’s Day, and it would be bad luck to NOT try it!
